National Defence Academy and Naval Academy
(NDA and NA)
National Defence Academy (NDA) formally took place in the year 1955 on the 16th day of January. This is an entrance examination organized by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) twice a year, mainly in the month of April and August. Through this examination successful candidates are posted in Army, Navy and Air Force Wings of the National Defence Academy (NDA) for the 128th course, and for the 90th Indian Naval Academy Course (INAC). Candidates opting for Indian Naval Academy will undergo a four year Bachelors in Technology course and will get an opportunity to join Executive and Technical Branches of the navy.
Candidates have to go through the details carefully before applying for the examination. Any misconduct found in the application will cancel the admission of that candidate.
NDA and NA Eligibility Criteria:
i. Indian Citizen
ii. A subject of Nepal
iii. A subject of Bhutan
iv. Indian origin persons who have migrated from Burma, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, or East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, and Ethiopia or from Vietnam with a thought of settling in India permanently.
v. A Tibetan refugee who came to India with a thought of settling here permanently before 01 – 01 – 1962.
vi. Applicants who come under categories mentioned in point’s ii, iii, iv and v should provide the relevant certificate issued by the Government of India.
2. Age limit, Gender and Marital Status
i. Candidates should have born between 02 – 07 – 1993 and 01 – 01 – 1996 are acceptable,
ii. Only unmarried male candidates can apply,
iii. Candidates need to submit their Matriculation / Higher Secondary Certificate as the proof of their date of birth once they qualify the written examination,
iv. Candidates should make it clear that they cannot marry until their training is over.
3. Educational background
i. Army Wing of National Defence Academy – Should have passed 10+2 examination or equivalent examination organized by a State Board or a University
ii. Air Force and Naval Wing of National Defence Academy and 10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme at the Indian Naval Academy – should have cleared 10+2 pattern of school education or equivalent with Physics and Mathematics organized by a State Board or a University.
Candidates who have appeared for the 12th examination and are waiting for their results can also apply but they have to submit the proof of clearing the examination once they qualify for the second round.
4. Physical Standards
Candidates must be physically fit according to the standards of the examination.
i. Minimum height for Air Force is 157.5 cms
ii. For Gorkhas and candidates belonging from hills, the minimum height will be 5 cms less.
iii. For candidates from Lakshadweep, minimum acceptable height can be reduced by 2 cms.
iv. Candidates must be in good mental and physical form and should be free from any disability / disease.
v. Candidates from bodily defects and underweight will not be considered.
vi. Past history of mental breakdown or fits should not be there
