General Information

Applicant for admission is evaluated on the basis of his academic record at school and college. It should be superior, not just above average.

There are several goods reason for the advise that only the excellent student should try to go abroad for his advanced degrees :

1. New kinds of food, strange social customs, and very different educational systems are just a few of the puzzling things which a student from overseas encounters in the United States., Above average students, as a rule, find it easier to adjust to the new environment. They also generally perform well academically during the period of adjustment. Under qualified and very young students usually fall behind academically while coping with the general adjustment problems of living in a different culture.

2.   Colleges and universities in the U.S. are facing severe financial constraints. They are unable to expand existing facilities to accommodate foreign students, or to offer financially assistance to them. Therefore, they have become more selective to their consideration of admission applications. Thus the foreign student must have excellent credentials if his application is to be considered at all.

Be certain that you meet the following requirement before you apply for  admission to a college or university in the United States:

(a) have completed three or four years of college level work after higher secondary school or 4 years of college after 10+2 level in India;

(b)  have adequate funds to meet your expenses while you are at a university. University in the United States occasionally give financial assistance to foreign students, but the competition for these funds is very keen and only the top few students can expect to receive such aid and that too after being at a university for at least one academic year ;

(c) Meet the requirements of the Reserve Bank of India so as to be able to obtain a foreign exchange permit. The Evaluation, Testing and Advising Section of the U.S. Educational Foundation in India may be able to supply information about these requirements. However, we suggest that you write directly to the Reserve Bank of India at New Delhi,  Bombay or Madras.

Cost of Education

U.S. Government regulations require a foreign student to show proof prior to entry that he has adequate funds to meet all his expenses in the United States. However, if you intend to pay your own expenses you should check l with then Reserve Band of India regarding your eligibility to obtain foreign exchange permit for the amount you require for education. The cost of education varies with the location of the university you are joining. The fees can be revised by the universities any time without notice. So you must check the current cost of the particular university you plan to join. This information is available with the student Advisers of the foundational its offices to Bombay, Calcutta, Madras and New Delhi.

Cost is an important factor when you are choosing the universities you considers joining. An academic year at one U.S. University the university can cost $ 15000 to $ 50000. Often student’s enquirer abjurer the average cost in an American university with such a wide range, average, is not a very meaningful concept. Therefore, the student is advised to check on the exact current cost of the university he plans to join.
